Just finished the ladder business, and noticed an omission:
looks like you left out the step to create lvlHolder (as a globally available sprite, i assume, like blockHolder). Then to add blockHolder and ladderHolder into lvlHolder, and add lvlHolder to the stage. ja? 

I&#039;ve had problems now and then because I created my own mcMain clip. it seems like this needs to be smaller than 25 pixels square (and maybe slightly offset from it&#039;s own x,y origin?) or else you&#039;ll have wacky problems with hit detection. (in a previous lesson, once i put in &quot;detecting blocks instead of just the ground&quot; - i could only jump once, then it got stuck. and now in this guy, i&#039;m able to climb a ladder, but not get off at the top. arg! 
but i&#039;ll tweak my mcMain again, guess i just have&#039;t hit the sweet spot.</description>
