I’ve recently come accross a website called Flash Den. It’s basically a marketplace where you can either buy or sell flash stuff. You could buy or sell a variety of flash-related things, from components to preloaders. But right now, I want to focus on selling your game’s source code. I myself haven’t tried it out, but it seems like a simple process. The uploading process occurs all on one easy page, which doesn’t have too many forms to fill out. But, if you don’t know what you’re doing, there are some instructions which tells you how to set up your files.

Now, let’s get to the subject. Would it be profitable if you sold your game’s source code on Flash Den? From what I’ve seen, it really depends. Not many games have been uploaded to the site for some obvious reasons. One is that the source code for most games can be sold exclusively to one person for a lot more than many sales that you can get on the site. Second, you can’t make the price, the staff sets it for you, which can be pretty disappointing if you are trying to earn a lot. Third, anyone can buy it, so you have to be sensitive with what kinds of games you are selling.

So, should you sell your game’s source code on Flash Den? In my opinion, you should do it only if you’ve created a game that is simple enough to be useful and doesn’t take too much time to create. You’d only earn from $1-$100 from each game, so you have to be careful with the amount of time and effort you put into the game. You should only create mini-games rather than full-fledged ones. It wouldn’t be worth it. Perhaps an even better idea would be to create games as practice, and sell them on Flash Den. It’s worth a try.

Why I Love Flash Game License

If you’ve read a few of my previous posts, then you should know that I’m a pretty big fan of Flash Game License. I’ve been using their services almost ever since its creation and to be frank, I LOVE it (not in the sexual way). Here is a list of the reasons why:

1. Sponsors Come to YOU

You don’t have to send out seemingly endless e-mails to major game portals that most likely won’t get any responses.

2. You can get feedback for your game before it’s even released

This is probably the most useful feature of the site after the sponsorship part. Feedback from other sponsors and developers is priceless information. Your game will be a lot better in the end with all of those suggestions.

3. It’s Constantly Updated

If you find a bug or have an issue, it’ll likely be fixed soon if you contact the administrators.

4. Within the Forums Roam the Experts

You can ask the developers of some awesome flash games for advice. Most of them are very nice and would be happy to oblige. It will help you. A lot.

5. They Provide News and Opportunities

I actually first learned all bout the $50 Hallpass API integration offer from them, which made me very happier and a little richer.

They also have some stuff about contests that are going on. Right now, they’ve partnered with Meez and are hosting a contest with them.

6. There are No Mandatory Fees

For a service as great as this, you would expect that they’d charge you for their services. You’d be wrong. All they do is kindly ask for a tiny 10% commission. If you can’t that, then you don’t even have to pay them (but that would make you a jerk).

Some Changes that Need to be Made

Of course, no review is without some constructive criticism. Here’s a list of some things that I think should be fixed or changed about the site

1. The Design

Even after almost a year, FGL still hasn’t had a major redesign of the site.

Although this may not bother you too much, it makes it look like less of a professional/reliable website. Hopefully, they’ll change that soon.

2. The Buying and Selling Doesn’t Occur Within the Site

I know that it is pretty hard to securely provide a service like this, but a payment service is definitely needed. If a sponsor bids on one of your games, the site has no way of knowing if you’ve been paid or not, unless you tell them. Too often, this is not the case. An idea I have, although it would probably be hard to implement, would be for FGL to act as sort of a middleman between sponsor and developer. For example, the sponsor would give FGL the money who will in turn give it to the developer. The same would go for the developer and his .swf file. This would give a few benefits:

They can be sure which games have been paid for

The developer can accept multiple forms of payment

The entire can be more secure if done correctly

3. It isn’t Owned by a Company

This may not seem like a problem to you, but it definitely will be when the site has to grow. As far as I know, FGL is only administrated by three people. Because of this, the site’s growth and development will be very limited. Perhaps becoming a company is not a totally necessary step, but definitely the site needs more people working on it.

In Conclusion…

Flash Game License is an amazing site with great services. But, I am worried that it won’t be able to grow into an even better website.

If you use 125×125 ads on your blog or website, then Performancing Ads might be for you. They provide a service which lets you sell your ad space at a fixed price for a weekly fee. You can also sell the more common different sized banners if you are able to make it into the premium publishers program (Over 250,000 monthly impressions).

Almost every part of it is customizable, which I really love. Here’s a list of what you can do all by yourself:

Custom Features for Performancing Ads

Set how many banners you serve and how many rows and columns you need (1 by 1 to 7 by 7)

Set the distance each banner is from each other (5px to 10px)

The weekly price

Whether or now to use the nofollow attribute in the link

What kind of ads you don’t want to be displayed

You can book your own ads (to friend’s sites or affiliates) in your ad spaces

If you want to advertise your site without paying, they have a traffic exchange system

Also, the minimum revenue share between you and Performancing is 60 to 40 (you get the 60%), which can rise up to 90% depending on how much you earn. This is a bit more than the 50-50 you get from most other banner services.

I’ve been using their service for a few days now and so far I’m pretty satisfied. So, if you want a great way to monetize your site, or you want to advertise on other sites at cheap prices, then check out Performancing Ads.
